John and Fin Kernohan, along with Shorty Robbins (please see above), are your Hosts, and the Organizers, of the 2016 Florida Tiny House Festival*.
John and Fin are the Founders of the United Tiny House Association and Georgia Tiny House Festival, LLC* (originally known as the Georgia Tiny House Association*), the Founders and Hosts of the highly successful 2016 Georgia Tiny House Festival*, are also members of the American Tiny House Association and the Georgia contacts for the National Tiny House Association.
After spending his adult life creating/developing a number of at-home medical specimen collection mechanisms and immunoassays, John retired at the age of 49 when he realized, while lying in a hospital bed, that his life-long quest of accumulating wealth was not a life of living. He made the decision to sell his laboratory, to reclaim his health (he lost over 80 pounds and shed 10″ off his waist), and began a quest of learning what it really means to be truly happy. He was also the elected District Director of Home Education for the 5th largest school district in the US and sat on the board directors as its vice-chairman for 7 years for the largest homeschool organization in the United States, while at the same time founding the non-profit Single-Parent Scholarship Fund and being a board member of the 501c3 Homeschool Scholarship Fund.
Originally from Thailand, Fin eventually settled in London after earning her Bachelor’s Degree. She is a world traveler, free-spirit, body builder, yogi, massage therapist, nutritionist, dietician, personal trainer, founder of Fin’s Fitness, and John’s rock.
Together, John and Fin live their off-grid tiny lifestyle 24/7/365 in their 304sqft tiny cabin and host the Facebook blog, “Beloved Cabin”, as well as hosting and being admins for numerous other Facebook groups geared specifically for health, food intolerance/allergy support, and tiny/micro-living. Their 2016 Georgia Tiny House Festival was featured in the April 2016 issue of Tiny House Magazine; and their journeys from the big cities of Bangkok, Miami and London to their tiny lifestyle in the Georgia woods can be read about in the June 2016 issue of Tiny House Magazine as well.
Their presentation at the 2016 Florida Tiny House Festival, “Personal Growth During Your Build”, is an update to their acclaimed “Our Great Big Tiny Lives”, which focuses on their journey from the mega cities of Bangkok, London and Miami, while living in houses over 2000sqft, to their now-tiny life in the Georgia woods where they are embracing their minimalist lifestyle.
Additionally, John will be sharing his vision of unity and cooperation within the world stage of the tiny house community during his talk, “Bringing Tiny Houses Together”.
* Please Note: John and Fin created their branded Tiny House Festivals as a way to bring more awareness to the tiny house movement, as well as to create a financial resource for local communities and charities. (To date, John and Fin have not personally profited, or collected a single penny for either themsevles or their tiny house organization, through their tiny house festival activities.)
